We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and engaging individual with the ability to inspire a culture of sustainable travel behaviour in children and young people across Milton Keynes in order to improve health and wellbeing. The post holder will work with Milton Keynes Council in the delivery and promotion of active travel to schools as well as providing one to one support for schools and the work they do to promote active, sustainable travel. There will be a specific intense focus on 6 targeted schools who are not already engaged which will require resilience and enthusiasm to achieve their buy-in.

Experience of successful partnership working, organising, promoting and delivering events is required as is excellent administrative and organisational skills.

LOCATION: Milton Keynes Council (working with schools across the borough)
Purpose of Post
The post holder will be appointed to Milton Keynes Council via PWLC Projects. They will be required to work across Milton Keynes working in partnership with other Milton Keynes officers who operate in schools including Transport Planners – Smarter Choices and Cycling, Bikeability Instructors and Road Safety Officers.
The post holder will be managed jointly by Milton Keynes Council and PWLC Projects.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
The post holder will be expected to travel to schools on a regular basis. Frequent travelling and working outside in all weather conditions is an expected part of the post. Occasional overnight stays away from home, weekend and late working may be required although infrequent. Occasional (fully funded) visits to Sheffield to meet the wider PWLC team and for training will be required.
Employment is conditional subject to receiving an enhanced DBC check.
Qualifications & Education
3 A-levels or NVQ equivalent
A relevant graduate or professional qualification
Effective communication skills
Ability to organise and deliver training and workshop sessions
Ability to plan and allocate work tasks and to work under pressure to meet deadlines
Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships
Experience of using and familiarity with Microsoft word and excel.
Experience and knowledge
Understanding of current transport policy, the key issues and challenges involved in the promotion of sustainable / active travel.
Experience of working in or with schools.
Experience of delivering training, workshops and / or events
Experience of working in transport planning, health promotion or sustainable travel.
Experience of working with children and young people
Substantial drive and enthusiasm for the promotion of healthy lifestyles and sustainable travel.
Resilience and a determination / ability to engage schools with whom the local authority has no current relationship and who are not obligated to participate.
Self-motivated and be able to work independently with minimum supervision.
Able and willing to travel to schools on a daily basis, and to meetings with management on a regular basis at locations central to Milton Keynes.
